Kennedys Group successfully delivered a major soil remediation project, creating a safe and asbestos-free sporting ground for the local community. The completed works now provide a healthier environment for outdoor recreation and future sporting activities.
Led by Senior Project Manager Mark Ferlazzo, the project involved the remediation of a 19,000sqm site contaminated with asbestos material. Our team removed 300mm of contaminated soil using excavators and bulldozers before stockpiling the material into windrows for controlled disposal.
To support safe transportation, Kennedys Group implemented strict hazardous materials management procedures throughout the project. Our crews erected scaffolding systems for safe truck access and pre-lined vehicles before transporting 9,000 tonnes of contaminated soil to an EPA-approved disposal facility.
Safety and environmental controls remained a priority across every stage of the works. The team implemented continuous dust suppression measures to minimise airborne particles generated by heavy machinery. In addition, independent hygienists completed ongoing air monitoring and clearance inspections to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
Following remediation, Kennedys Group completed extensive reinstatement works to restore the sporting ground. Our team installed a fully automated irrigation system across the oval before placing and levelling 9,500 tonnes of certified clean blended soil.
A detailed soil nutrient analysis guided the selection of the most suitable seed mix for strong germination outcomes. After seeding, our team implemented a structured watering and inspection program to monitor growth and establish healthy turf coverage.
Before the handover, Kennedys Group reinstated the oval fencing to improve site safety and security for future users.
