The successful completion of this project marks a significant milestone in our commitment to providing safe and healthy recreational spaces for our community’s youth. By executing a comprehensive scope of works, focussing on soil remediation, we have delivered a pristine and asbestos-free sporting ground, ensuring a conducive environment for outdoor activities.
Led by our Project Manager Mark Ferlazzo, the project encompassed several critical tasks, including the removal of asbestos from the 19,000m2 area. Utilizing excavators and bulldozers, we removed 300mm of contaminated soil, stockpiling it into windrows for transport to an EPA-approved disposal site. Additionally, we implemented robust hazardous materials management practices, erecting scaffolds for safe access into trucks and pre-lining them in preparation for the transportation of 9,000 tonne of contaminated soil.
Throughout the project, we prioritized safety and environmental stewardship, implementing dust suppression measures to contain any dust created by heavy machinery. Furthermore, air monitoring and clearance checks conducted by independent hygienists ensured compliance with regulatory standards, guaranteeing the safety of the surrounding environment.
Upon completion of remediation works, our efforts extended to reinstatement and greening initiatives. We installed a fully automated irrigation system across the oval and laid and leveled off 9,500 tonne of certified clean blended soil mix to restore the area. A comprehensive soil nutrient report guided the selection of the optimal seeding mix for germination, followed by the sowing of seeds and implementation of a watering program with periodic inspections to monitor germination progress.
In preparation for the handover, we reinstated oval fencing to enhance safety and security, ensuring a safe sporting environment for locals to enjoy. This project showcases our commitment to delivering excellence and highlights our dedication to creating sustainable and thriving communities through meticulous planning, execution, and environmental strategy.
