Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre is a leading single-level shopping mall situated near the Geelong CBD. This large retail facility is owned by ISPT and managed by Colliers International. Waurn Ponds Shopping Centre has a large car park, leases to more than 140 stores on one level, and is activated 7 days a week.
The Kennedys Group Plumbing team replaced 3 sections of roof above occupied tenancies. 1100sqm of roof sheets were replaced, 350 sqm of wall sheet, plus all gutters, flashings, and wall cappings. Existing box gutters were brought up to compliance with expansion and overflow provisions installed with all works carried out while the tenancies below were still operational and open to the public.
“Due to ongoing maintenance issues with the roof at the Centre’s oldest building, a capital works business case was developed to replace the existing roof with a new roofing system, including all new box gutters, capping and associated flashings.
The current roof required constant on-going maintenance due to leaking, and was not only a health and safety risk to tenants and customers, but required continually attention and call outs during wet weather events. The upgrade was approved and Kennedys Group Plumbing were awarded the works to fully replace the roof, consisting of a Kliplok system to provide a more secure, rigid surface given the amount of traffic and serving that occurs on the roof.
Kennedys Plumbing staff were courteous and professional throughout the duration of the project, and the works were completed on schedule and with minimal issues given the complexity of the roof with the amount of plant and equipment present. All safety aspects of the project were considered, and Kennedys were proactive in ensuring the health & safety of their staff was paramount, as well as the Centre’s occupants and general public. The result was the perfect outcome and the shopping centre is delighted with the new system. Coming into the winter months, we now have a full proof roof that will withstand heavy rain events for many years to come.
