Kennedys Group’s ‘a better way’ to Give Back Volunteer Program is a purpose-driven initiative that empowers employees to use their skills to create meaningful change in communities that need it most. Built on the company’s long-standing commitment to giving back, the program reflects the values and culture that have shaped Kennedys Group into a recognised leader across head contracting, commercial and industrial plumbing, and environmental services.
The program focuses on delivering community-led projects in developing regions, particularly projects that improve access to clean drinking water, sanitation, and essential infrastructure. More than just a volunteer opportunity, it is designed to create life-changing experiences for employees while supporting long-term outcomes for local communities through skills sharing, cultural connection, and collaboration.
The foundations of the program stem from a deeply personal chapter in our history. In 2018, Founder Allan Kennedy led a small team of Kennedys tradespeople to the remote Hudad Plateau in Ethiopia, where they partnered with Friends of the Hudad to install clean water access and sanitation facilities for an isolated community. The experience demonstrated the powerful impact skilled trades can have beyond the construction industry and inspired the next generation of leadership to continue this legacy of service.
Today, Directors Chris Kennedy and Shannon Kennedy are continuing that vision through a structured volunteer program that gives employees the opportunity to contribute their expertise overseas every two years. Selected participants work alongside local communities and project partners, helping deliver practical infrastructure solutions while gaining valuable personal and professional experiences along the way.
Participants are selected based on their alignment with Kennedys Group values, teamwork, professionalism, and integrity. Successful applicants receive comprehensive pre-departure training and ongoing support to ensure they feel prepared throughout the journey.
At its core, the ‘a better way’ to Give Back Volunteer Program is about people. It is about using practical skills to improve lives, building genuine human connection across cultures, and creating opportunities for employees to step outside their everyday roles and contribute to something bigger than themselves. It is a reflection of Kennedys Group’s belief that business success should go hand in hand with community impact, and that there is always a better way to make a difference.
