The Dandenong team was recently engaged to complete the removal of asbestos eaves and replacement ofroofing at a facility in Seaford, originally constructed in 1958. The ageing structure required a comprehensive and carefully managed approach to ensure safety, compliance, and long-term performance.
Led by Project Manager John Lewis, with Senior Leading Hand Chris Dendle coordinating site operations, the team quickly identified that the works extended beyond a standard roof replacement. Following the installation of temporary fencing and the safe removal and disposal of asbestos eaves and the existing tiled roof, underlying structural issues were discovered.
Working closely with engineers to revise the project scope, the team then needed to install additional bracing and brackets and rectify loose brickwork and gables to ensure the structure met current standards. New roof battens and 570 square metres of corrugated Colorbond roofing were then installed.
Additional works included replacing fascia with Colorbond, installing eaves and gutters, and rainwater outlets, and installing an anticon blanket beneath the roofing system. Upon completion of the roof works, ceiling insulation batts were installed to achieve an R3 thermal rating.
Through a solutions-focused and adaptable approach, the team successfully navigated unforeseen challenges while maintaining safety, quality, and program expectations. The result is a compliant, durable roofing system that extends the life of the facility and delivers long-term value for the client in Seaford.
