In June 2025, our Williamstown team, led by Senior Project Manager Adam Spencer, successfully completed a critical purlin replacement project at a major industrial facility in Brooklyn, Victoria.
Over the course of two weeks, our crew of plumbing specialists, Lachlan O’Donnell, Matthew Heath, Finnian Lodge, Jacob Steele, Jack Marth, and Chad Hall, worked to replace extensively corroded structural purlins across multiple roof zones.
The project involved meticulous planning and compliance, including obtaining all necessary site-specific permits, preparing Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS), and establishing clearly delineated work zones with safety signage and barriers. Scaffolding was installed in four key areas: Rendering Bays 1 (east end), Middle Bay (ridge to south wall), Bay 3 (west end), and the lower-roof Dryer and Acid Storage areas. Scissor lifts provided by the client were used to complete pre-measurements.
A key challenge was replacing a 7.5 m corroded steel support beam purlin in the Dryer and Acid Storage zone. The team used Acrow props for temporary roof support before removing and craning in a new beam, securely fitted into newly installed galvanised drop brackets on existing columns.
Across the site, we removed and replaced a total of 54 deteriorated purlins with powder-coated 200 mm C-purlins. These were bolted to existing truss cleats using stainless steel fixings and reinforced with threaded stiffeners and stainless steel angle bracing. The roof cladding was then reinstated and secured with new stainless steel roof and skylight screws.
